What do you think about painting the main beam in white?
This way it would bring more light into the space and would take away the heaviness of wood.
I wouldn’t. The beam appears to be a repurposed piece. I feel painting it would take away that authentic appearance.
No doubt about it.
That would be just another option as of eliminating wood from the kitchen visual.
